I have taught English at all levels in Japan for approximately five years. My original interest in Japan started when I practiced the Japanese martial art Ju Jitsu at university. My curiosity with Japan led me to successfully apply for the JET Programme and my time as an ALT allowed me to gain invaluable teaching experience. That opportunity also helped to create my main research area of the influence of society and culture on language. Currently I am researching the cultural appropriacy of western ELT methods in Japan. I am also interested in and finding out new ways of using technology and multimedia in the classroom.
Within the classroom I believe that the key element to learning in classroom is the student. I try to motivate and encourage students to be automonous and give them opportunities to use the language that they are learning.
