My linguistics background is centered on the study of the structure and development of pidgins and creole languages; while my studies in applied linguistics focused on English language teaching and second language learning.
Having taught language arts and English literature for several years, my experience in the classroom provided the impetus to conduct research on the teaching of English in contexts where English is spoken as a second dialect and as a second language. Later, teaching English as a Foreign Language realigned my focus and my interest now includes research in the foreign language learning context. I am interested in exploring avenues for insightful teaching and learning of vocabulary as opposed to rote learning. In addition, I am interested in exploring pronunciation teaching and learning as well as assessment in the English as a Foreign Language classroom.
