This morning, 21 new JASIN Program short-term international arrived on campus for the beginning of Fall 2012 Orientation.
After a two-hour ride from Fukuoka to the NUFS campus on the northern edge of Nagasaki, the new students had lunch in the university cafeteria before launching into an afternoon of introductions to health, banking, housing, and transportation in Nagasaki and Japan.
Students also received access to the NUFS Media Center and an opportunity to purchase prepaid cellphones with delivery by the end of the day.
After today's orientation, students who selected home stays met their new host families at the university and traveled home together, and dormitory students were escorted to their residences by university staff.
From picking up students at the airport to preparing and conducting a detailed orientation of the Ampelos female dormitory, continuing JASIN students Ashley Hughes and Naomi Oya played a significant role in helping the first day of orientation run smoothly. (Thanks, Ashley and Naomi!)
Tomorrow, the new JASIN students will participate in an Opening Ceremony together with other incoming students, measure their Japanese language ability on a placement exam, and meet conversation partners and other new students at a relaxed exchange event with drinks and snacks.
