3. Getting around Nagasaki - JR Train

The JR train is primarily used for going north to Isahaya, Sasebo, Fukuoka, or elsewhere in Kyushu or Japan, but it is also helpful for going northeast to Nagayo (at a cheaper rate than the bus) or north to Sumiyoshi late at night (see the Getting Home at Night page for details). From north to south, JR train stations include Michino (across the street and about a block north of Seiyu), Urakami Station (one block north of Cocowalk Mall), and Nagasaki Station (the south end of the JR line).

JR tickets can be purchased at any station, and you can check train schedules on http://www.hyperdia.com in English or Japanese.

With proper planing, significant discounts on JR tickets are possible. Please see the Discount Tickets page for details.
